Natural Cure For Itchy Eyes

Several factors can be responsible for itchy eyes – air pollution, allergies, eye infection or sitting before computer screen for long hours. Constantly scratching the eyes might cause serious damage and worsen the condition. There are several natural remedies that cure the itch, inflammation and puffiness in the eyes:

  • Cucumber Slices : Slices of cucumber should be put on closed eyes to experience relief from itching.
  • Cold Spoon : Put some spoons in the fridge and gently keep a cold spoon on your eye.
  • Castor Oil : Take pure castor oil in a dropper and put a drop of it inside the eye. Its anti-inflammatory properties reduce the swelling, puffiness and itching.
  • Witch Hazel : This herb should be applied on itchy eyes with a clean piece of cotton.
  • Frozen Vegetables : Freeze some vegetables and make a paste of them. Wrap this paste in a cloth and put it over your eyes.
  • Cold Milk : Soak a cotton ball in cold milk and rub it gently around the affected eye.
  • Mashed Potatoes : Mash a potato and keep this paste on closed eyes for a while. Feel the itch and the inflammation go away.
  • Ice : Wash your eyes with cold water or apply ice cubes on closed eyes.
  • Aloe-vera : A clean piece cotton should be dipped in cold aloe-vera juice or gel and gently placed on the eyes.
  • Water : It is important to drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated. At least eight glasses of water should be had daily, as water prevents dryness and therefore itching in eyes.
  • Rosewater : It is a very effective remedy. Rinse the eyes with coldwater twice every day. Or rosewater can also be used as eye drops to enjoy instant relief.
  • Tea Bags : Tea contains tannic acid and bioflavonoids that fight viral and bacterial infections. A used tea back should be cooled and then put on the eyes for a while.
