Natural And Effective Weed Killers

Weed Killers

Commercial weed killers might be effective, but the chemicals present in them harm the soil, plants, humans and animals. It is better to opt for natural remedies aimed at killing weeds:

Boiled Water : It is the easiest and cheapest remedy. Directly pouring boiled water on the weeds is known to destroy them.

Corn Gluten Meal : It destroys the weeds even before they are able to grow to full size. This remedy obstructs the growth of weed roots and the weeds end up dying because of dehydration.

Vinegar : Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) contains high levels of acids that destroy the weeds. Form a mixture of 1 part water and 1 part vinegar. Try this and then manipulate the concentration according to the result you get. You might need to spray this mixture several times if excessive weed is present.

Newspaper : This method is apt for low growing weeds. Covering the weeds with newspaper will prevent sunlight from reaching them, thus killing them eventually.

Bleach : Spray concentrated bleach on the weeds. But spray a limited quantity of it as too much bleach can harm the soil.

Alcohol : Take several tablespoons of rubbing alcohol and mix it with water in the spray bottle. Such solution deprives the weeds of moisture, therefore killing them.

Ground Cover Plants : These plants prevent the growth of weeds as they compete with the latter for sunlight, nutrients and water.

Baking Soda : This works best in seasons like spring – when the weeds grow actively. Sprinkle high amount of baking soda on the weeds.

Salt : Adding salt to the soil makes it unsuitable for any further growth of plants. So use this remedy in places like gravel paths and pavement areas where you do not need to grow anything for a long time. Fill a spray bottle with hot water and add half cup of salt to it. Mix thoroughly and then spray on the weeds.
