Kidney dialysis risk and its side effects

Kidney

Kidney is one of the essential and important parts of the body and it is important to maintain it and take proper care. There are lots of problems that are caused if it is not properly maintained and taken care. Kidney is the natural filtration system and helps in regulating the body functions. Kidney plays an important role in eliminating the excretory products from the body.  Once the kidney is detected with problems the excretory products are not eliminated and in turn is mixes with the blood and begins to circulate in the body. Dialysis is a treatment that replaces the function of the kidneys. Dialysis behavior removes waste products and surplus fluids from the blood stream through the use of a blood filter and a chemical solution while maintaining the appropriate chemical equilibrium of the blood. Now this dialysis has few side effects which are mentioned below.

  •  Symptoms have been seen that the person who is going through dialysis feels itchy skin. This because of the high phosphorous level in the body. Dialysis does not remove the phosphorus. Dialysis patients are prone to dry skin and these results in itching. Application of moisturizers and other creams are good for the skin.
  •   Another common side effect that is observed is that cramps in the legs. The muscles cramps can be uncomfortable and painful at times. Individuals experience muscle cramps when fluid is taken out of the body at a brisk pace during dialysis. Too much of fluid when removed can result in body cramps and pain in legs.
  •   Dialysis results in low blood pressure. Individuals who are going through dialysis complain about nausea and dizziness. However it is suggested not to take any pressure tablets without the prescription from doctor or else it can result in something serious.
  •   Dialysis can result in infection and blood clotting. Such problems are quite frequents and the doctors suggests some tablets and pills separately for such problems.
  •   If the dialysis equipment is not kept properly sterilized, peritonitis can happen. Bacteria presented on the equipment can be passed into the peritoneum. Initial symptoms of peritonitis are lack of appetite and nausea followed by abdominal pain. Other symptoms of peritonitis are vomiting, chills, high temperature, rapid heartbeat feeling thirsty, and not passing any urine, or passing much less than normal.
  •   Some patients often complain about bad nutrition and don’t feel like eating. The treatments are as such that patients avoid food completely.  However some patients gain weight when the body absorbs sugar from the dialysis solution.
  •   Pressure formed by the dialysis solution pushing against the already damaged muscles can lead to a tear and it results in a hernia. Warning sign of a hernia is the appearance of a swelling in the abdomen. The swelling may be painless and only be discovered during a check-up.

Prevention of the side effects

However there are some techniques or ways through which you can prevent the problem. Few are discussed below.

  •   Don’t do anything that increase the intra abdominal pressure and it can cause hernia.
  •   Take special care on the diet that is recommended by the doctor as dialysis removes necessary nutrients from the body.
  •   If any sign of infection or pain is felt around the fistula take doctor help without delay and try keeping the area clean and dry.

Try following this techniques and it will be helpful else can result in some serious problems. Once a patient goes through dialysis proper care and food should be taken to maintain the body else it can cause serious problems in the body.
